SEDLAR stands for Self Elevating Drilling Land Rig
In contrast to conventional drilling rigs, SEDLAR rig uses a hydraulic telescopic mast composed of a fixed part and a mobile part which carries two pairs of cable & sheaves. Drilling cables run over the sheaves located on the mobile mast. One end of the drilling cables are attached to the fixed mast the other end is attached to the Top Drive which is guided by the mobile mast.
This rig design is very compact and easy to move. With a stroke of 9.7 m, the hydraulic cylinders move the Top Drive on a stroke of 19.4 m. SEDLAR rig can work both with Range 2 and Range 3 drill pipes.
